50 years ago, Ruby Neil Bridges walked into a New Orleans school and made history as the first African American to attend an all-white elementary school in the American South.

Ruby was threatened, insulted, bullied and screamed at, but her experience allowed others to follow in her footsteps. Ruby’s first day in school has been forever immortalized by a famous painting by Norman Rockwell called, A Problem We All Live With.
